Trillium Engineering has expanded its HD59 product line with two new gimbal configurations engineered to lower the acquisition cost of mid-wave infrared imaging for tactical uncrewed aerial systems.
Developed to satisfy Long-Range Reconnaissance requirements, the new HD59-MVV-C and HD59-MLVV-C combine electro-optical and mid-wave infrared (MWIR) sensors alongside an integrated laser rangefinder and laser pointer. By pairing upgraded optics with refined sensor layouts, the platforms achieve more than a 30% reduction in overall system cost compared to traditional gimbaled MWIR payloads, allowing platform manufacturers to hit imaging specifications within tighter program budgets.
Both configurations weigh under 2kg and carry an IP65 rating, targeting integration into mid-sized UAS platforms. The systems retain the standard HD59 hardware and software architecture to streamline installation and reduce deployment timelines for operators in the field.
Matt Carreon, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Trillium Engineering, said, “Our customers made it clear they needed improved long‑range identification performance without the premium price tag that usually comes with MWIR. We designed the new HD59 configurations directly around that feedback, delivering MWIR capability at a budget‑friendly price.”
Sensor capabilities differ between the two variants to suit distinct operational needs. The HD59-MVV-C integrates a 26x zoom MWIR camera, a 180x zoom dual visible imaging system, a laser rangefinder, and a laser pointer. The HD59-MLVV-C incorporates those same imaging channels while adding a 2x zoom long-wave infrared (LWIR) camera that can optionally output raw USB video. Both systems run Trillium’s Intelligence Stack software, delivering target tracking and geolocation tools for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
