uAvionix is advancing airspace safety for expanding BVLOS operations with skyAlert, a compact, body-worn ADS-B receiver purpose-built for UAS field pilots and visual observers.
As beyond visual line of sight missions scale across utilities, public safety, and infrastructure inspection, operators require reliable situational awareness without dependence on cellular connectivity or complex installations.
skyAlert delivers real-time audible and visual alerts for cooperative aircraft broadcasting ADS-B Out on 978 MHz UAT and 1090 MHz frequencies. The device clips directly to a belt or vest using the included RAM® mount, acquires GPS within seconds, and operates for up to 12 hours on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with USB-C charging. Configurable alert zones for altitude and range, combined with auto-adjusting LED brightness, provide adaptable performance in varied field conditions.
Unlike LTE-dependent applications, skyAlert relies solely on direct ADS-B reception and local Wi-Fi for integration. When paired with EFB platforms such as ForeFlight, SkyDemon, or WingX, it transmits GDL-90 traffic data over a local Wi-Fi network, enabling crews to view live aircraft traffic on mobile devices, even in disconnected environments.
Field trials in utility and high-hover operations have demonstrated reliable detection of nearby manned aircraft, enabling timely mitigation actions. As BVLOS operations continue to expand, solutions like skyAlert offer a practical, low-complexity layer of airspace awareness that strengthens operational safety and supports regulatory compliance.
