Teledyne Webb Research, a subsidiary of Teledyne Marine, has been awarded a contract valued at up to $51.1 million by the U.S. Navy’s Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO) for the production and delivery of APEX profiling floats over a three-year ordering period.
Under the contract, Teledyne Webb Research will manufacture and deliver the APEX systems in strict accordance with operational requirements established by NAVOCEANO. These autonomous observing systems provide unattended measurements of temperature, salinity, and pressure throughout the water column, operating effectively at depths down to 2,000 meters.
Designed for rapid ocean data acquisition in remote and operationally complex environments, the profiling floats support both surface and air deployments, including parachute-assisted aircraft launches.
The new agreement builds on a 28-year history between Teledyne Webb Research and NAVOCEANO, extending the company’s long-standing support of oceanographic data collection for government, research, and operational users through the development of autonomous observation technology.
