Honeywell Aerospace has developed a mobile, modular Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (C-UAS) that provides layered protection against evolving drone swarm threats.
The AI-enabled system delivers adaptable defense for military forces, border operations, and critical infrastructure in both stationary and mobile deployments.
Mobile and Adaptive Protection
Autonomous drone swarms continue to present a growing challenge to defense and national security operations. Honeywell Aerospace designed the C-UAS to meet the operational requirements of modern, high-tempo environments. The system maintains effectiveness whether positioned at fixed sites or operating on the move, supporting missions that demand continuous situational awareness and rapid threat response.
A defining feature of the Honeywell C-UAS is its ability to function while in transit. Conventional counter-drone systems are typically restricted to static use, which can limit adaptability during mobile missions. Honeywell’s design approach extends protection to moving convoys, border patrol units, and infrastructure operators working across varied terrain and conditions.
AI-Enabled Detection and Flexible Architecture
Artificial intelligence enables the system to detect, classify, and track multiple aerial threats simultaneously. Combined with a suite of effectors, this capability supports a layered defense strategy against both individual and swarm drone incursions. The architecture allows rapid adaptation to emerging patterns of attack, maintaining effectiveness where conventional systems may be challenged.
The Honeywell C-UAS employs a modular, vendor-agnostic framework that allows operators to integrate third-party sensors and technologies. The open design supports scalability and mission-specific configuration without reliance on proprietary systems. The system follows the Department of Defense Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), ensuring flexibility and interoperability across a range of defense platforms.
Supporting Defense and Critical Infrastructure
Matt Milas, President of Honeywell Defense & Space, said, “From the battlefield to border security and critical infrastructure, Honeywell C-UAS delivers agile, scalable defense against swarming drone threats. By combining mobility, modularity, and advanced AI, Honeywell C-UAS ensures protection wherever and whenever it’s needed.”
Backed by Honeywell’s experience in aerospace and defense systems, the C-UAS is intended for use by defense forces, public safety agencies, and operators of essential assets including airports, ports, and energy facilities. The system has been field-tested to operate while in motion at high speeds without degradation, integrating advanced sensors to detect, identify, track, and counter both single and swarm drone incursions.
With unified command and control software linking all sensors and effectors, and a design that is compliant with DoD MOSA standards, the C-UAS provides operators with a flexible, interoperable toolset. Its combination of mobility, modularity, and AI-driven functionality offers a strategic advantage in addressing the complex and rapidly evolving landscape of aerial threats.
