ARK Electronics has introduced the Just A Jetson Modalix Bundle, combining the ARK Just A Jetson Carrier with a SiMa.ai Modalix system-on-module (SOM), heatsink and fan.
The Modalix SOM delivers 50 trillion operations per second (TOPS) of artificial intelligence performance at less than 10 W. According to the supplied product specifications, the module offers higher TOPS per watt than the NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano 8GB Super, rated at 67 TOPS at 25 W, and the Jetson Orin NX 16GB Super, rated at 157 TOPS at 40 W.
Built-in embedded MultiMediaCard (eMMC) storage allows the Modalix SOM to boot and run without a separate solid-state drive (SSD). An optional National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)-compliant 480GB M.2 Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSD can also be specified.
The Modalix SOM is pin-compatible with NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX and Orin Nano modules, although ARK Electronics has identified several interface differences. UART2 functions as a console, UART0 operates without flow control and UART1 is not supported. The module does not provide a Controller Area Network (CAN) interface or PCI Express (PCIe) connectivity through the M.2 Key E slot.
The USB-C port’s USB 3.0 interface operates in host mode, while its USB 2.0 interface connects to an FTDI console on the SOM. HDMI is supported only by Modalix modules purchased with the HDMI option, although the units specified for this bundle will not include HDMI. The PCIe2 interface operates only when HDMI is not in use.
