Allient Defense outlines its approach to domestic manufacturing and supply-chain resilience for defense Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), drawing on U.S.-based design and manufacturing, scalable production capabilities, and long-term program support.
Allient’s ITAR-compliant facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, forms part of the company’s U.S. manufacturing base, supporting mission-critical technology requirements for Allient Defense.
The company provides motion control, precision motion, advanced lightweight materials, and power control technologies for defense applications including uncrewed systems, ground vehicles, munitions, actuation, and military aircraft. Within the UAS market, Allient Defense is applying its engineering and manufacturing capabilities to drone propulsion, motion control, and associated power technologies.
A key focus is domestic manufacturing and supply-chain resilience. Allient Defense states that U.S.-based design and production can provide defense OEMs with greater control and risk management while supporting stable, compliant, and secure sourcing, along with traceability requirements and long-term availability.
The wider Allient organization has engineered mission-critical technologies since 1939, while Allient Defense was launched in 2024 to bring the company’s motion, controls, power, and lightweighting technologies directly to defense applications. Allient operates across 28 locations in 10 countries with more than 2,300 employees and over 1.2 million square feet of manufacturing capacity.
Across the company, annual production includes more than six million motors, 710,000 electric motor drives, and thousands of composite components. Allient operates to AS9100-certified quality standards and is registered under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Integrated Technologies for Defense UAS
Allient Defense is also focused on developing integrated solution stacks by drawing on existing technologies from across the company. Its defense-focused solution stacks include Allient Drive Motor Systems (ADMS), UAS and counter-UAS motors and drives, UAS and counter-UAS hangar and storage systems, Composite Advanced Material Systems, Mobile Power Generation Systems, and other motion, power, and lightweighting technologies.
This integrated approach covers areas including electrification and hybridization, motion control, power management, and advanced lightweight materials. These systems are intended to enhance performance, reduce maintenance requirements, and improve platform readiness for the warfighter.
For UAS applications, the company is expanding its Vyxalon™ drone motor range with additional sizes and series and is launching the Vyxalon™ Apex Drone Drive. The drive uses Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology and operates at up to 100 kHz pulse-width modulation (PWM), with 25 kHz control loops.
Allient’s new U.S.-made drone motor series, engineered for high power density and defense-grade performance.
It supports both sensorless and encoder-based field-oriented control (FOC) and is designed to reduce energy loss and heat while providing optimized power management for agility and endurance in demanding missions.
From Prototype to Long-Term Production
Allient Defense identifies a shift in the defense UAS market from a prototype-focused approach toward a full lifecycle approach, with planning for multi-year programs and sustainment strategies.
The company works with OEMs early in the design process to help ensure that technologies under development can scale in production and be supported throughout the platform lifecycle.
For programs requiring high levels of security and compliance, Allient Defense emphasizes U.S.-based design and manufacturing to provide speed, scale, and precision, with local supply chains also enabling faster product delivery and direct customer access.
