FibreWorks Composites develops and manufactures custom carbon fiber transit cases designed to protect mission-critical communications equipment during transportation and deployment in demanding defense environments.
Combining composite engineering, tooling and production capabilities, the company delivers lightweight and rigid enclosures configured around the requirements of tactical communications systems, with complete cases supplied ready for equipment integration.
FibreWorks approaches transit case development as an engineering program rather than simply a build-to-print exercise. Its engineers can work from functional requirements to develop production-ready designs incorporating rack-mount layouts, custom mounting patterns, payload-rated inner rails and tailored lid depths for equipment with protruding components. Waterproof sealing, field-replaceable wheels and handles, and other deployment-specific features can also be incorporated.
The carbon fiber construction provides a combination of low weight and stiffness suited to equipment that must be transported and deployed in operational environments. Engineering activities can include analysis of thermal performance, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, stiffness, straightness tolerances and insert design, with external testing resources available where required.
Cases are designed around MIL-STD-810 transport shock and vibration requirements, while early design reviews enable customers to assess dimensions, construction methods and assembly before tooling is committed. FibreWorks can also support in-house drop testing and validation of case designs against relevant transport and operational requirements.
The company’s vertically integrated capabilities in Mooresville, North Carolina bring engineering design, tooling and finished-case production together under one roof. Production can support requirements ranging from prototypes and pre-production builds through recurring weekly manufacturing, with a high-rate press cure system enabling output of up to 50 cases per day on a single piece of equipment and single shift.
FibreWorks supplies complete finished cases rather than bare composite shells, with hinges, latches, wheels, handles, rack hardware and pouches assembled and inspected. Finish options include a matte, low-reflection carbon fiber surface for tactical applications. The company is AS9100 certified, DFARS compliant and a U.S. small business.
