Global aerospace and defence company Volatus Aerospace Inc. has officially marked the opening of its 53,000-square-foot manufacturing and systems integration facility in Mirabel, Québec, expanding the company’s Canadian production capacity for advanced uncrewed and autonomous systems.
Operational since earlier this year, the facility is located within the aerospace cluster surrounding Montréal-Mirabel International Airport and brings manufacturing, systems integration, and technology advancement together into a unified Canadian production environment. The investment aims to position Volatus to meet rising demand across defence, public safety, industrial, and commercial markets in Canada and allied nations.
Production of drone docking stations is already underway, while the site also supports the assembly and integration of Volatus’ V-Series aircraft and other autonomous platforms.
“Mirabel is an important part of the next stage of Volatus’ growth,” said Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus. “As demand for autonomous systems grows, our ability to manufacture, integrate and deliver at scale becomes increasingly important. This facility gives us the infrastructure to expand production, accelerate the commercialization of Canadian technologies and serve customers in Canada and allied markets.”
The official opening included remarks, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a facility tour with government, industry, investment, and community leaders. Joining Lynch at the event were MP Carlos Leitão, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry; MP Madeleine Chenette; Isabelle Hudon, President and Chief Executive Officer of BDC; Roxanne Therrien, Mayor of Mirabel; and Yves Beauchamp, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aéroports de Montréal.
“Building sovereign capability requires more than developing great technology,” added Lynch. “It requires the ability to manufacture, integrate, test and support that technology here in Canada. Mirabel strengthens that capability and provides a platform from which we can continue to scale production and pursue opportunities across Canada, NATO and allied markets.”
