MKS-Ophir has introduced a new continuous zoom lens designed to provide advanced long-range imaging and tactical detection capabilities.

Announced at the SPIE Defense + Security 2026 event, the Ophir SWIR 50-1000 mm f/5.5-9.5 continuous zoom lens is engineered to deliver sharp, high-contrast imagery in low-visibility conditions. It operates across the full 0.6 to 1.7 µm spectral range and is designed to support 10 µm SXGA, 15 µm VGA, and 10 µm VGA SWIR detectors. The technology enables vehicle detection ranges exceeding 35 km while providing broadband sensitivity to detect and track key laser wavelengths at 850 nm, 905 nm, 1064 nm, and 1550 nm across air, land, and maritime platforms.
To ensure consistent performance, the optical design maintains focus and line-of-sight stability throughout the zoom range. An athermalized architecture preserves image quality across varying temperatures, while the horizontal field of view ranges from 14.5° to 0.7°, allowing for both wide-area situational awareness and precise identification.
Dr. Kobi Lasri, General Manager of Ophir Optics Products, commented, “ISR applications demand more signal, range, and integration flexibility. To meet these needs the Ophir SWIR 50-1000 compact lens features excellent lowlight sensitivity and precise longrange discrimination. Combined with 0.6–1.7 µm broadband response, continuous zoom, ruggedization, and neardiffractionlimited imaging, it enables confident detection, recognition, and identification across airborne, maritime, and ground ISR.”
Built for harsh field conditions, the system is rated for operation between –32 °C and +75 °C and includes an IP67-sealed front element. The unit measures Ø146 × 391 mm and weighs 3.6 kg. The lens is available now, and OEM pricing can be requested directly from MKS.
