ANELLO Photonics’ Maritime Inertial Navigation System (INS) has been selected by BlackSea Technologies for integration into its Chaser Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV), following successful demonstration on the GARC platform.
The collaboration combines ANELLO’s proprietary Silicon Photonics Optical Gyroscope (SiPhOG™) technology with BlackSea’s mission-ready maritime autonomy platform to deliver assured navigation for Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs) operating in GNSS-denied and contested environments.
As reliance on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) increases across maritime operations, vulnerabilities such as jamming and spoofing present growing risks to operational continuity and mission success. The integration of the ANELLO Maritime INS enables continuous, high-precision positioning and heading performance independent of external satellite signals.
Built on solid-state SiPhOG™ technology, the ANELLO Maritime INS provides robust, reliable navigation without GNSS, ensuring resilient operation in complex and contested environments. This capability supports the Chaser platform’s modular architecture, designed for missions including surveillance, security, and operations in challenging maritime conditions.
Dr. Mario Paniccia, Co-Founder and CEO of ANELLO Photonics, commented, “Reliable navigation is fundamental to autonomy, safety, and mission assurance. With the ANELLO Maritime INS now integrated into the Chaser platform, we are delivering proven, high-performance inertial navigation that maintains precise positioning and heading even in GPS-denied environments.”
The partnership supports fleet modernization by enabling mission-ready autonomous platforms with assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) performance.
Timothy O’Connor, CSO at BlackSea Technologies, added, “Our collaboration with ANELLO enables a new level of navigation resilience for maritime autonomy. By incorporating ANELLO’s advanced inertial navigation technology, we are strengthening the reliability and mission capability of the Chaser platform for our customers.”
By combining advanced inertial sensing with operational autonomy platforms, ANELLO Photonics and BlackSea Technologies are addressing a critical challenge in modern navigation: maintaining accuracy and reliability in GNSS-denied environments.
