Analog Modules, Inc. (AMI), a developer of laser electronics for military and defense applications, has launched the new Model 789 OEM Continuous Wave (CW) & Pulsed Laser Diode Driver.
The Model 789 is a highly efficient, current regulated buck converter that provides programmable current to a floating laser emitter diode load. Output current is adjustable up to 50 Amps for both CW and pulsed operation, with the capability to drive laser compliance voltages up to 45 Volts.
The laser diode driver integrates multiple protection features, including open circuit, short circuit, adjustable current limit, and temperature monitoring. The PCB is mounted on an aluminum plate to assist with heat spreading and dissipation. Due to its high efficiency, cooling requirements are minimal.
With a compact footprint and high power density, the Model 789 is capable of driving loads up to 1500 W average power and 2.25 kW peak power for pulsed operation with adequate cooling. Multiple units can be connected in parallel to support higher output current applications.
