Tocaro Blue has partnered with FarSounder to integrate its ProteusCore™ software into the company’s SonaSoft™ Lt navigation platform, expanding situational awareness capabilities for operators navigating complex marine environments.
The integration combines ProteusCore’s AI-enabled radar perception technology with FarSounder’s Argos 3D Forward-Looking Sonar (FLS), bringing above- and below-water awareness together within a unified operational display.
ProteusCore is designed to enhance conventional marine radar through machine learning-based object perception and automated radar optimization. The software supports the detection, classification, and tracking of marine targets, supporting environmental awareness for navigation and collision avoidance decision-making.
The platform’s Autofocus capability continuously adjusts radar settings such as gain and range according to surrounding sea and weather conditions, reducing the need for manual configuration and helping optimize radar configuration in changing operating environments.
When integrated with Argos 3D FLS systems, operators can access both subsurface sonar data and AI-processed radar information simultaneously. The combined system supports classification and tracking of vessels, including non-AIS contacts, while also providing visibility of buoys, shorelines, and underwater hazards ahead of the vessel.
FarSounder’s Argos technology is used across expedition cruise ships, commercial vessels, government platforms, superyachts, and unmanned surface vessels to provide real-time awareness of the seafloor and water column. The forward-looking sonar generates a continuously updated 3D representation designed to support safer navigation in shallow, poorly charted, or dynamically changing waterways.
According to Tocaro Blue, the integration is intended to provide operators with improved decision-making support in congested, low-visibility, and unfamiliar maritime environments.
