WilliamsRDM has announced the launch of its WP500-2 Smart Weapons Tester (SWT), the latest advancement in the company’s family of portable armament test systems.
Building on more than 15 years of field deployment across global fighter programs, the WP500-2 consolidates multiple legacy testers into one compact, next-generation device engineered for high reliability in demanding operational environments.
Designed and manufactured in Fort Worth, Texas, the WP500-2 provides flightline and field-level armament verification and fault isolation for both modern and legacy aircraft platforms, including the F-16, F-15 (EX), F-35, A-10, and F-22. The tester also supports potential integration with emerging weaponized Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems, extending its versatility to new mission domains. Fully compliant with MIL-PRF-28800G Class 1, the unit supports MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-1553, and 16PP194 (WMUX) communications standards to enable comprehensive smart-weapons and clean-station testing at austere sites.
Weighing only 1.6 lbs (0.7 kg), the handheld tester features a sunlight-readable color display, LED pass/fail indicators, and controls sized for gloved operation. Power is supplied by two user-replaceable 18650 Li-Ion rechargeable batteries that deliver over 50 hours of typical use, with a secure Ethernet interface for TPS management and software updates. The system allows user-editable Test Program Set (TPS) creation without proprietary tools, reducing dependency on specialized equipment.
The WP500-2 performs AC/DC voltage and resistance measurements, stray-voltage and squib monitoring, and EED and high-voltage checks, along with RS-170-compatible video and audio generation. Cyber-secure architecture includes encrypted TPS handling, tamper-resistant firmware, and secure data-transfer controls.
Operational efficiency has been increased by up to 85-90 percent compared with legacy testers, supported by built-in NIST-traceable calibration references for measurement accuracy. Compatibility with SERD 75060 and A/E24T-199 cable sets ensures continuity with existing armament support infrastructure while enabling field use with WilliamsRDM’s new modular cable assemblies.
The WP500-2 Smart Weapons Tester continues WilliamsRDM’s six-decade legacy in military-grade armament-test solutions. With more than 700 units deployed worldwide, including over 350 serving F-35 operations, the system underscores the company’s commitment to delivering rugged, adaptable, and flightline-ready test equipment for evolving defense platforms.
