Torrent Photonics has launched the SpectroCam 2, a configurable multispectral imaging platform designed to streamline proof-of-concept testing, product development, research, and OEM system development.
Replacing the original SpectroCam platform, the updated architecture provides broader camera compatibility while granting development teams full control over sensor, filter, and lens selection. By enabling resolution, frame rate, field of view, and spectral range to be evaluated in tandem, the system avoids the performance trade-offs associated with fixed camera setups.
Sensor options span ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared wavelengths, while an available off-the-shelf Nikon mount allows a wide array of lenses to be integrated directly into the test setup.
At the core of the system is an eight-position rotating filter wheel equipped with user-swappable, hard-coated interference filters. Each position can be specified independently for center wavelength, bandwidth, transmission, and blocking performance. This hard-coated architecture offers higher optical throughput compared to typical liquid crystal tunable filter methods without constraining every band to a single tuning technology.
Hugh Garvey, Director of Imaging at Torrent Photonics, stated, “Selecting the right spectral bands is a critical part of multispectral product development. SpectroCam 2™ allows development teams to test different sensors, filters, and optical configurations before committing to a final design. Once the configuration has been established, our team can support development of an OEM version tailored to the application.”
Individual filters can be exchanged as testing progresses, allowing hardware configurations to evolve without requiring a whole new camera platform. For specialized project requirements, Torrent Photonics provides in-house optical coating and photolithography capabilities to design and manufacture custom hard-coated bandpass filters. These custom components, along with optical and mechanical modifications, can then be carried directly into final assembly and production.
Garvey added, “Project requirements often change once representative samples are tested. SpectroCam 2™ makes it possible to replace individual filters or reconsider the sensor without starting again with a completely different platform.”
The portable platform is built for laboratory testing, field evaluation, or direct integration into larger systems across machine vision, industrial inspection, scientific imaging, agriculture, environmental sensing, forensics, security, defense, and life science research. Configurable purchase packages and leasing options are available for organizations conducting initial evaluation work.
