Teledyne FLIR OEM has introduced the LeptonĀ® XDS, a compact dual-thermal-and-visible camera module designed to bring advanced imaging capabilities to space- and power-constrained original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products.
Launched at Mobile World Congress, the module features Teledyne FLIRās patented Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX) technology, which enhances thermal imagery in real time by embossing visible-image edges directly onto the thermal scene.
The Lepton XDS integrates a 160 x 120 radiometric Lepton 3.5 micro-thermal camera with a five-megapixel visible sensor. By utilizing MSX technology, the module provides sharper detail and improved context, offering a level of actionable thermal intelligence often reserved for more expensive, higher-resolution systems. The hardware is particularly suited for applications in robotics navigation, unmanned platforms, fire detection, EV battery monitoring, and smart infrastructure.
The module is powered by the integrated FLIR Prism ISP software, which facilitates real-time image enhancement. This suite includes thermal-visible fusion and a radiometric JPEG (RJPEG) output. Built-in measurement tools allow for spot temperature measurements, regions of interest, isotherms, and customizable color palettes. The system is compatible with the broader Teledyne FLIR OEM software ecosystem for post-processing and reporting.
Mike Walters, Vice President of Product Management, Teledyne FLIR OEM, stated, āMSX technology has long been a defining advantage of Teledyne FLIR, and with Lepton XDS, we are making that capability accessible in a compact, OEMāready module. By combining a visible camera, a proven microāthermal sensor, onboard Prism ISP processing, and direct access to radiometric overlaysāincluding spot meters and regions of interestāweāre accelerating innovation and enabling OEMs to deliver clearer thermal imagery for faster user interpretation.ā
Designed for rapid integration and scalable deployment, the Lepton XDS is optimized for size, weight, and power (SWaP). It utilizes an industry-standard USB output, making it compatible with battery-powered and always-on systems. The module is ITAR-free and classified under ECCN 6a993.a, allowing for broad commercial and international availability.
Teledyne FLIR OEMās technical services and manufacturing systems support high-volume production to minimize supply-chain risk, building on a history of delivering more than six million Lepton units to date.
