Indra has introduced DRIZZLE, a new family of autonomous interceptor drones engineered to neutralize mass drone attacks and safeguard critical military assets.

Unveiled at UNVEX, Spain’s unmanned systems trade fair, the system is designed to protect infrastructure, land vehicles, helicopters, aircraft, convoys, and deployed field units against drone threats used in modern conflicts. Powered by an advanced propulsion system, the compact, lightweight effector can achieve speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour with a base operational range of approximately 80 kilometers.

The platform relies on a proprietary search and detection system developed by Indra, enabling high-precision threat discrimination and target locking. During the terminal phase of an engagement, an onboard real-time processing system analyzes data from electro-optical and infrared sensors to guide the effector, with future development phases set to incorporate radar capabilities to further strengthen threat detection.

DRIZZLE can function as a hard-kill effector within broader counter-drone architectures or as an onboard self-protection solution for platforms operating in saturated environments. To extend operational reach, Indra has developed a dedicated mothership drone capable of transporting multiple interceptors. Operating at altitudes up to 30,000 feet over the first 80 kilometers of flight, the mothership vector releases the smaller interceptors to travel an additional 50 kilometers during the final mission phase, extending total range to approximately 130 kilometers.

Mothership vectors can also fly in swarm formations to deploy a dense field of interceptors that saturate adversarial air defenses while simultaneously acting as attack vectors upon completing their primary mission. Built around a fungible system concept, DRIZZLE effectors are designed to be expendable, providing allied armed forces with an economically viable and highly effective defense against mass, low-cost drone strikes.
