BotBlox has launched SwitchCore, a compact rugged Ethernet switching module now available to order for applications including defense platforms, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), ground robots, and industrial systems.
Measuring 27.6 × 27.6 × 10.7 mm and weighing 40 grams, SwitchCore provides Layer 2 networking functionality in a compact module.
SwitchCore features:
- 8 × galvanically isolated 10/100BASE-T Ethernet ports
- UART management interface
- Port statistics, management, and VLAN support
- 4–40 V input
- 1 W power consumption
All Ethernet circuitry is contained within the module, with the baseboard only required to break out connectors according to the needs of the design.
SwitchCore does not use cable-mate connectors on the module itself. Instead, it stacks directly onto a custom carrier board, allowing engineers to determine the connector type and location, enclosure layout, and mechanical integration. The design can accommodate rugged circular connectors, RJ45, board-to-board connections, and custom harnesses.
The module uses a 7075 aluminum enclosure that serves as both the structural chassis and heatsink, enabling heat dissipation without additional cooling hardware. The enclosure also protects the electronics against vibration, shock, and environmental ingress.
SwitchCore includes embedded switch management and ships with BloxOSLite, providing management through a TTL UART interface. Additional Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing capabilities are also in development.
