Greene Tweed details how its Xycomp® DLF™ thermoplastic composite was applied to an anti-roll bar lever within a critical motorsport suspension system developed with Arrow McLaren, where structural performance, durability and weight reduction had to be balanced under demanding operating conditions. The project replaced an existing 7075 aluminum anti-roll bar lever with a molded Xycomp® DLF™ alternative while maintaining equivalent structural performance requirements. The resulting component reduced weight by 64 grams per car without compromising durability or performance.
The anti-roll bar system is a critical mechanical device within the vehicle suspension package, resisting chassis roll by transferring load between the left and right suspension assemblies. Its stiffness and durability are important to maintaining consistent handling under varying loading conditions and high lap counts. During development, Greene Tweed and Arrow McLaren reviewed real-world applications to ensure the composite could meet the load, durability and environmental demands of the anti-roll bar lever.
Xycomp® DLF™ is a high-performance thermoplastic composite engineered as a lightweight alternative to metal components while withstanding extreme conditions. Greene Tweed supported the project across material selection, design and manufacturing, helping validate Xycomp® DLF™ for the anti-roll bar lever while meeting the required operational characteristics. Greene Tweed typically achieves weight reductions of 35-50% when adapting parts to the material, which made it an attractive proposition for the project.
