Micro-Magic provides an in-depth overview of its U-Series high-performance Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), highlighting their role in enhancing navigation, guidance, and autonomous capabilities for unmanned systems and robotic platforms.
As unmanned systems and robotic applications advance from laboratory research to industrial and military-grade operations, they demand unprecedented accuracy, reliability, and environmental adaptability from their core sensors, particularly IMUs.
Traditional low-cost MEMS IMUs cannot meet the demands of long-endurance and high-precision tasks due to limited accuracy and significant drift, while high-end solutions like Fiber Optic Gyroscopes (FOGs) are often constrained by cost, size, and weight.
To address this gap, Micro-Magic introduced the U-Series high-performance MEMS IMUs, including the U5000, U6300, and U7000. These units are engineered to transform navigation, guidance, and control across Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs), Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs), Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), and various robotic platforms, providing essential support for autonomous perception and decision-making in complex environments.
For example, the U6300 integrates high-performance three-axis MEMS gyroscopes and three-axis MEMS accelerometers, achieving breakthroughs through precise system-level design and algorithm optimization.
Its gyroscope zero bias instability reaches 0.1°/h, while the accelerometer zero bias instability is as low as 10 μg, enabling extended autonomous navigation and reduced position errors, even during GNSS signal interruptions. This supports most industrial and some tactical applications.
The U6300 offers comprehensive temperature compensation across -40°C to +85°C, ensuring stable performance in extreme conditions. Its robust anti-vibration and anti-impact design allows reliable operation on industrial robots, off-road UGVs, and high-speed drones.
Supporting high-frequency data output at 1000Hz, the sensor captures rapid motion details with precision. The U6300 is compact and lightweight at 38.6 x 44.8 x 10 mm and 50g, facilitating seamless integration into a variety of platforms.
According to Micro-Magic, the U-Series was developed to meet the market’s urgent need for high cost-effectiveness and reliable IMUs. Through optimization of MEMS chips and advanced calibration compensation algorithms, the U-Series elevates MEMS sensor performance, providing a critical foundation for autonomous perception in unmanned systems and intelligent equipment.
