Iridium Short Burst Data® (SBD®) is a packet-based service for frequent, short two-way transmissions between remote equipment and centralized host systems. Delivered through small, lightweight and low-power modules, it supports status reports, sensor readings, location data and other machine-to-machine messages from assets operating beyond cellular and terrestrial network coverage.
The return channel allows operators to send commands and configuration updates back to deployed equipment, supporting remote monitoring and control as well as simple tracking. SBD uses Iridium’s crosslinked low-Earth orbit network for low-latency, pole-to-pole availability and weather-resilient L-band connectivity, and is ideal for battery-powered sensors and long-term unattended systems in demanding environments.
