In this video, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) introduces Sparrowhawk, a small unmanned aerial system (SUAS) that can be carried beneath a larger remotely piloted aircraft such as the MQ-9.
Once launched, Sparrowhawk can conduct surveillance and relay information back through the host aircraft.
Sparrowhawk has also been developed for in-flight recovery, allowing the larger UAS to recover the smaller aircraft during a mission. GA-ASI describes the system as supporting distributed sensing and operations in contested environments, with its integration drawing on advances in autonomy and multi-aircraft control.
