Spectrum Control has introduced a range of new products that expand its portfolio of RF, EMI, and cryogenic component solutions.
The company’s latest products address requirements in communications, aerospace, defense, and test and measurement applications, meeting mission-critical needs and military standards.
RF+ Systems-in-Package
Spectrum Control’s RF+ Systems-in-Package (SiP) platform provides fully embedded, system-ready solutions for mixed signal integration in compact surface-mount packages. These solutions integrate RF signal conditioning, power supply and distribution, as well as digital tuning, command, and control.
The platform enables miniaturization and integration of system functions, which saves valuable board space without compromising performance.
Pre-engineered system blocks are designed to significantly reduce engineering time. The volume-ready surface mount solutions simplify both manufacturing and qualification. Applications for this platform include wireless communications, test and measurement, and aerospace and defense.
mmWave Block Converters
The RF+ SiP family includes block converters for millimeter wave applications. The 18–40 GHz DownConverter (SCRS-00-1001) and UpConverter (SCRS-00-1003) extend system frequency coverage with compact, high-volume designs.
Features include integrated digital gateways for control of filter bands, amplifier gain, digital attenuators, regulators, RF detector thresholds, and temperature. Both units incorporate on-board memory for calibration data storage.
A hermetically sealed 2.0″ x 2.1″ x 0.6″ up/downconverter option is also available, designed for rugged defense applications and supporting +12V to +48V supply operation.
32 GHz Clock Generation
The 32 GHz Quad Clock Generator (SCRS-00-1004) provides quad-output, low-jitter clock generation for direct sampling architectures up to 64 GSPS. Integrated power supplies and a digital gateway support full system control.
Custom SiPs
Spectrum Control offers custom-designed SiPs leveraging its design, simulation, and manufacturing capabilities. These include wideband RF front ends, switched filter banks, frequency converters, and power amplifiers.
The RF+ Systems-in-Package platform was recognized with a 2024 Military + Aerospace Electronics Innovators Platinum Award.
High Q SMT Filters
The High Q SMT filter family introduces ultra-miniature lumped element filters that reduce size while maintaining high performance. Operating from 500 MHz to 10 GHz, these filters support lowpass, highpass, bandpass, and diplexer applications.
The MMG filter family is built using integrated passive devices in glass, enabling novel 3D solenoid inductor structures with superior Q performance. The wafer-scale process ensures predictable simulation-to-production correlation and consistent quality.
Featured Release – 4 GHz IF filter (P/N MMG-4000-2000-B):
- Pass-band: 3–5 GHz
- Mid-band insertion loss: 2.2 dB
- Group delay: 1.0 ns nominal from -55 °C to 125 °C
- Stop-band suppression: >60 dBc from DC–2.5 GHz and 5.8–15 GHz
Custom derivatives, including multiplexers and switched filter banks, are also available.
Gain Equalizers
Spectrum Control’s Inmet brand gain equalizers provide slope correction options including negative, positive, parabolic, and ripple. Covering DC to 40 GHz, these equalizers are available in tubular and rectangular formats with SMA and Type N connectors.
50 GHz Tunable Gain Equalizer
The latest addition is a tunable gain equalizer designed for Q-band applications between 40 and 50 GHz. It supports linear, parabolic, and ripple-removal types, with fixed or field-adjustable attenuation.
Gain equalizers are designed to compensate for:
- Amplifier gain variations
- Loss variations in long cable runs and delay lines
- Uneven gain from amplifiers or filters in EW and SIGINT systems
- Frequency roll-off in antennas and wideband amplifiers
Applications include radar, electronic warfare, and communication systems.
Filtered Connector Express
Spectrum Control’s Filtered Connector Express program delivers custom EMI-filtered MIL-DTL-38999 connectors within 12 weeks from specification to finished prototypes or production units.
Options include:
- Finishes: Nickel or ODCAD
- Pin configurations: 13-35, 15-35, 17-35
- Configurable circuits and values for mixed signals in a single connector
Features include superior EMI filtering through planar and substrate technology, soldered construction for high-frequency performance, and aluminum shells for rugged environments.
All connectors undergo extensive quality assurance testing, with additional qualification or special testing available on request.
Low Temperature Resistives
Spectrum Control’s low temperature resistives family provides coaxial and chip solutions for cryogenic applications down to 4 mK. These attenuators and terminations maintain performance up to 40 GHz in extreme environments.
Applications include quantum computing, aerospace, and scientific research. The company’s cryogenic thin-film technology ensures stable resistance near absolute zero, addressing challenges that affect conventional resistors at low temperatures.
Quantum Computing
Fixed attenuators designed for cryogenic cooling systems help reduce thermal noise in quantum computing chambers. Spectrum Control supplies solutions capable of operating at millikelvin levels, supporting reliable qubit isolation and measurement.
