Electro Optic Systems has been selected as an industry partner for Mission Syracuse, an Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator initiative focused on accelerating counter-uncrewed aerial systems capability for the Australian Defence Force.

Under the $5.7 million contract, the company will develop the R400 SLINGER Counter-Uncrewed Aerial Systems capability. The all-in-one remote weapon system is designed to counter small and medium-sized drones.

The R400 SLINGER integrates an advanced laser-guided rocket to provide a flexible response to airborne threats. The system will be manufactured and sustained in Australia.

The program responds to the growing presence of uncrewed aerial systems on modern battlefields, where drones present dynamic and rapidly evolving threats requiring equally agile countermeasures.

Lee Kormany, Executive Vice President, Defence Systems Australia, commented, “Counter-drone threats are evolving rapidly, and Mission Syracuse enables us to deliver capability on timelines aligned to operational needs. This work reflects our ability to move fast, iterate quickly, and deliver systems that are ready for the realities of modern combat.”

Ms Kormany added, “We are grateful for the trust placed in us by ASCA. It is that partnership, between industry and Defence that allows us to deliver sovereign, world-class capability when and where it matters most.

EOS is headquartered in Australia, and almost every remote weapon system it designs, engineers, and manufactures is developed entirely within the country. This supports supply chain integrity, operational security, and Australia’s long-term defence self-reliance.

The program will further strengthen this sovereign industrial capability through investment in domestic skills, facilities, and intellectual property supporting Australia’s kinetic counter-drone requirements.

Advances achieved through the program are expected to inform broader capability development efforts across the Australian Defence Force, supporting a range of operational applications and platforms.

EOS also acknowledged the roles of the Australian Government, the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator, and the Australian Defence Force in enabling collaboration with industry partners to accelerate capability outcomes in priority areas.
