Magnet Defense has unveiled an AI-enabled autonomous Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV), M48, designed for high-endurance maritime operations.

The company has invested more than $50 million in the design, construction, and validation of this flagship platform. The M48 enters the market with a significant operational heritage, having already logged over 32,000 nautical miles and a total of 390 days at sea. This testing phase included proven performance in harsh maritime conditions, specifically operating in multi-day Sea State 7 conditions and enduring Sea State 9 conditions for multiple hours.

The M48 is engineered to operate fully autonomously in high-risk zones to reduce personnel risk while delivering capabilities such as persistent maritime intelligence, surveillance, missile defense, logistics, electronic warfare, and anti-submarine warfare.

The vessel features a stable geometry and accommodates containerized mission payloads through modular sensor suites. By utilizing advanced machine learning, edge processing, and multi-sensor fusion, the platform delivers rapid threat recognition and automated weapon pairing, alongside operator-in-the-loop mission capabilities.

To support long-duration deployments without constant maintenance, the M48 incorporates specific redundancies and features that allow for long unattended missions and fast base turnarounds. The company, which combines decades of experience across defense, technology, and industrial manufacturing, positions these innovations as a new standard for operational utility and resilience in the growing market for unmanned maritime systems.
