The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) are set to acquire more night vision goggles from Senop. The NVGs are manufactured in Finland using the latest aspherical and composite technology, which has resulted in high performance, yet small size and light weight.

The Senop EVA M is a compact night vision device for an individual soldier that enables mobile low-light combat. Senop EVA M is based on the basic structure of the first-generation Senop EVA already delivered to the Finnish Defence Forces in 2019-2024, but its features and usability have been further developed based on end-user requirements.

The procurement is based on a framework agreement concerning the procurement of military optronics signed with the Swedish and Finnish military procurement agencies last year. The combined framework agreement enables a fast and cost-effective way of acquiring combat enhancing optronic capabilities for both countries.

The value of the procurement is 19,9 MEUR excluding VAT and its employment impact in Finland is significant. The procurement is set for delivery to the Finnish Army by the end of 2025.

“The importance of feedback from the field is priceless for product development,” stated Erkki Tarvainen, Director of R&D Projects at Senop.

The ability to operate in all visibility conditions is a key factor on the battlefield. “The equipment used in combat conditions must be durable, high-performance and lightweight,” commented Aki Korhonen, President of Senop Oy, “In addition, the ergonomics and the ease of use them must be absolutely perfected.”

Senop has carried out the development and testing of the new night vision goggles together with the FDF. The Defence Forces uses the name VV M25 for the night vision goggles.

The order now being delivered is an excellent indication of resilience and cost-benefit in joint military optronics acquirements.

Aki Korhonen emphasized, “We are very proud to be able to support the Defence Forces’ infantry night combat capability. This kind of concept of cooperation is a highly successful example how to improve national security of supply and develop military optronics that ensure the needs of soldiers operating efficiently and effectively in all visibility conditions.”
