Exail has introduced Marins M1, a compact Inertial Navigation System (INS) designed to deliver high-performance, resilient navigation for smaller naval vessels and uncrewed maritime platforms.
Modern naval forces are operating an increasingly diverse mix of major combatants, tactical craft, and autonomous systems. As smaller and uncrewed platforms undertake demanding missions, accurate and reliable navigation remains essential when GNSS signals are degraded or unavailable. However, these platforms face stringent size, weight, power, and cost constraints that make the integration of high-performance inertial navigation particularly challenging.
Marins M1 was developed to address these requirements. Based on Exail’s sea-proven Fiber Optic Gyroscope (FOG) technology, the system delivers accurate position, heading, roll, and pitch data while supporting reliable navigation in GNSS-denied environments. Without external aiding, it has a maximum position drift of 1 nautical mile after three hours, combining military-grade inertial performance with a compact architecture and a more accessible price point.
Madeleine Laguarigue de Survilliers, Naval Navigation Product Manager at Exail, commented, “A RHIB or a USV operating without GNSS faces the same navigation challenge as a larger vessel, with far less room to address it. With Marins M1, we are making very high-performance FOG navigation accessible to these platforms in a system designed around their constraints.”
Designed for rigid-hulled inflatable boats, fast interception craft, patrol boats, Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs), and Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), Marins M1 extends Exail’s military-grade navigation offering to a wider range of maritime platforms.
The system builds on the existing Marins range, trusted by more than 50 navies worldwide, and complements the company’s inertial navigation solutions as naval fleets evolve towards an increasingly diverse mix of crewed and uncrewed platforms.
