The Royal Norwegian Navy has strengthened its mine countermeasure capabilities with the delivery of Patria’s latest acoustic minesweeping systems.
Having deployed the Patria SONAC ACS since the spring of 2024, the Navy now possesses one of the most advanced acoustic minesweeping capabilities available, significantly enhancing its ability to neutralize maritime threats.
Squadron Commander Bengt Berdal, said, “We are excited to operate Patria SONAC ACS as part of our MCM influence mine sweeping system following the recent retirement of our high-end ELMA-AGATE sweep. SONAC ACS has so far offered excellent handling and very promising performance, operation and reliability. The Norwegian Navy considers this new influence minesweeping capability as one of the most sophisticated influence minesweeping in service today.”
Patria SONAC ACS plays a crucial role in efficiently clearing influence minefields. Leveraging superior acoustics, the system outsmarts even the most advanced mine algorithms by generating high sound pressure across a broad frequency range with exceptional sound quality. This capability allows it to effectively simulate the sound signatures of various vessels, making it suitable for both Mine Setting Mode (MSM) and Target Simulation Mode (TSM).
The system is the result of Patria’s deep expertise in vessel signature measurement, influence mine technologies, and minesweeping. It is designed for seamless remote operation, allowing operators to select an acoustic signal from a signature library or create a custom signal for specific missions. The intuitive user interface ensures smooth operation by providing real-time controls, system status monitoring, and mission settings management.
Patria SONAC ACS is also designed for modern, unmanned surface vessel (USV)-based minesweeping operations. Its compact and lightweight form factor ensures easy integration, handling, and operation, making it an ideal solution for contemporary naval forces seeking advanced, adaptable minesweeping technology.
