Accelerate Defense Modernization through Strategic Sourcing
Discover cutting-edge solutions from leading global suppliersHottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK) has supported SMAC in strengthening its aeronautical and space testing capabilities by equipping the company’s Toulon-based laboratory with two new vibration shaker systems.

SMAC, a supplier of elastomer solutions for harsh environments, required a dependable test setup to experimentally validate new damper designs within demanding development schedules.
After a detailed review of SMAC’s technical specifications, HBK supplied an LDS V8 shaker system for high-force testing and an LDS V721 shaker system for less severe vibration tests. The selected solution addressed key requirements including force capability, mass considerations, signal severity, availability, and safe long-term operation within nominal limits.
The installation has enabled efficient, standards-compliant vibration testing, with the shaker systems operating for around 160 days per year and supporting both current and future test programs. The case study also underlines the role of structured maintenance in ensuring reliability.
