The company’s laser portfolio supports applications including weapon system aiming assistance, target pointing and illumination, infrared illumination for night vision, UAV and unmanned systems gimbals and payloads, security and signaling alarm beams, and identification friend or foe (IFF) support.
Three products from the wider portfolio demonstrate different approaches to laser integration and operational requirements.
P-KAT High-Peak-Power Pulsed Laser System
The P-KAT is an ultra-compact pulsed laser system that combines a high-performance laser diode with advanced control circuitry in a miniaturized PCB architecture.
Designed to address size, weight, and power requirements, the complete laser assembly and drive PCB can be integrated into space-constrained payloads, handheld devices, and compact multi-sensor gimbals.
P-KAT delivers high peak power through high-energy nanosecond pulses. Operating within the tens-of-nanoseconds range, the system provides rapid, repeatable rise times for high-fidelity data capture and high-speed tactical responses.
The system also produces a highly collimated beam with minimal divergence, concentrating energy across long distances to support extended operating ranges and accurate targeting. The P-KAT’s miniature, high-power architecture supports applications across the defense, industrial, and aerospace sectors.
Potential uses include optical countermeasures and jamming applications targeting hostile optical sensors, night vision tracking, and laser-guided threats.
The system can also provide short, intense illumination for advanced tactical imaging through degraded visual environments, including dust, smoke, and fog. For target designation applications, its tightly collimated nanosecond pulses support precision targeting across long operational ranges.
Micro Lapid 200P+ Near-Infrared Laser Pointer
The Micro Lapid 200P+ is a miniature near-infrared laser pointer designed for pointing out targets at very long ranges.
Its narrow beam divergence and compact dimensions enable systems designers to integrate a high-power laser into the restricted internal spaces of gyro-stabilized gimbal systems.
Operating at a wavelength of 850 nm, with other wavelengths available, the Micro Lapid 200P+ delivers 200 mW of optical output power and supports continuous wave and flash operating modes.
The pulse rate reaches up to 5 Hz, while beam divergence, measured at 70% of energy, is below 0.3 mRad. The standard operating voltage is 28 VDC, with other voltage ranges also available.
The optical assembly measures 18.6 mm in diameter and 25.2 mm in length, while the PCB measures 42 mm long by 28 mm wide. The complete system weighs 25.4 grams.
These characteristics make the Micro Lapid 200P+ suitable for long-range target pointing applications requiring integration within space-constrained systems.
LazLight Ultra-Miniature Laser Illuminator
LazLight is an ultra-miniature illuminator developed for short-range applications.
Its SWaP-optimized design enables integration into space-constrained systems, while four selectable output power levels allow performance to be adapted according to different operational requirements.
LazLight operates at a wavelength of 1470 nm and provides up to 400 mW of optical output power. The system has a beam divergence of 35 degrees by 18 degrees and an operating voltage range of 4.5 to 20 VDC.
Four separate output power levels can be selected according to application requirements. The optical assembly measures 14 mm in diameter and 15 mm in length and weighs 10 grams. The PCB measures 21 mm long by 18.2 mm wide and weighs 5 grams.
LazLight operates across temperatures from -40°C to +55°C and can be stored at temperatures between -55°C and +85°C.
OEM Laser Technologies for Defense Applications
The P-KAT, Micro Lapid 200P+, and LazLight form part of Thermal Beacon’s broader portfolio of compact and rugged OEM laser products for illumination, aiming, targeting, and signaling applications.
