The Octantis 2 INS-GNSS from Aeron Systems is a rugged MEMS-based navigation system designed to provide position, velocity, and orientation data for land, air, and maritime platforms.
It integrates a MEMS-based inertial measurement unit with multi-constellation GNSS to deliver continuous navigation, including in environments where GNSS signals may be degraded, intermittent, or unavailable.
The system combines inertial sensing with a multi-frequency GNSS chipset supporting L1, L2, and L5 bands. Using sensor fusion, it processes inertial and satellite data to provide stable navigation outputs. Support for multiple global navigation satellite systems improves signal availability and positioning performance, and when used with RTK corrections, the system is capable of delivering centimetre-level positioning accuracy.
Octantis 2 is designed to continue providing navigation data during GNSS outages. The inertial system maintains position, velocity, and attitude information when satellite signals are not available, with low position drift during GNSS-compromised operation. Performance can be enhanced through additional aiding inputs, including odometer-based ground speed data.
The system is a field-proven, MIL-qualified solution that has been in service for over 10 years as part of defence programs and is supported for long program life. It incorporates Continuous Built-In Test (CBIT) functionality to monitor system and sensor health, and features isolated interfaces and power supply design to protect against electromagnetic interference and transients. A wide range of communication interfaces is supported, including Ethernet, CAN, RS422, and RS232, enabling use across a range of platforms.
Designed for operation in demanding environments, the system’s size, weight, and power characteristics are suitable for use across a range of platforms. Applications include armoured and tactical ground vehicles, Unmanned Ground vehicles (UGVs), Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), marine platforms, and mapping and surveying systems. The system provides navigation data suitable for control and stabilisation functions.
Octantis 2 forms part of Aeron Systems’ portfolio of inertial navigation and sensing products, which includes INS, IMUs, and integrated navigation systems for defence, aerospace, and industrial applications.
