About Joint Navigation Conference 2027

The Joint Navigation Conference (JNC 2027) will bring together the U.S. military, government and industry to examine developments in positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) for defense and homeland security applications.

Hosted by the Military Division of the Institute of Navigation, the conference includes joint service and government participation and is intended for the U.S. military and Department of Homeland Security. The 2027 theme is “Robust, Resilient, Assured PNT for Warfighters and Homeland Security.”

JNC 2027 will focus on technical advances in PNT, including the joint development, testing, integration and support of resilient PNT systems. Operational topics will include military GPS applications, field navigation devices, warfighter PNT requirements and solutions, and navigation warfare.

JNC’s DTS conference ID is N20150610734.

When is Joint Navigation Conference 2027?

JNC 2027 will take place June 7–10, 2027, with the exhibit hall scheduled for June 8 and 9.
A classified session will also take place at AFIT, WPAFB.

Defense Technology Themes at JNC 2027

The conference will examine PNT technologies and their application across military operations, with emphasis on robust, resilient and assured capabilities for warfighters and homeland security.

Technical discussions will cover the joint development and testing of resilient PNT systems, alongside logistics and integration. The conference will also address advances in military GPS applications, the strengths and weaknesses of field navigation devices, warfighter PNT requirements and solutions, and navigation warfare.

These topics place the development and integration of navigation technologies alongside the operational requirements they are intended to address.

What’s On?

JNC 2027 will combine its technical conference program with an exhibition featuring organizations operating within the military and government navigation sector.

The exhibit hall will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on June 8 and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on June 9.

JNC 2027 Exhibition

The exhibition will provide space for companies and organizations to present technologies and capabilities to attendees from the military, government, commercial sector and academia.

Exhibition packages are available in several booth sizes. A standard 10 ft. by 10 ft. space costs $3,300 and includes one full-conference registration, an exhibitor sign and an expanded online exhibitor profile. Larger 10 ft. by 20 ft., 10 ft. by 30 ft. and 20 ft. by 20 ft. spaces are also available.

JNC 2027 Marks the 50th Conference

The 2027 Joint Navigation Conference will be the 50th conference in a history that can be traced to 1966, when the Aerospace, Guidance, and Metrology Center (AGMC) at Newark Air Force Station began holding forums to exchange information concerning the maintenance, reliability and improvement of guidance and navigation systems.

In 1969, following approval from the Joint Material Commanders Secretariat, the Joint Services Data Exchange (JSDE) for Inertial Systems was established to continue the cooperative exchange of information concerning the design, development, operation and maintenance of inertial guidance and navigation systems.

Following a planning meeting in May 1969, the first JSDE-organized conference took place in October of that year at the AGMC in Newark, Ohio. AGMC Brig. Gen. R. E. Hails delivered its opening address.

During 1970 and 1971, membership expanded to include the defense industry and commercial airlines. Interest also grew across the Department of Defense, including the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, Department of the Navy Engineering Centers, and Navy and Army Weapon Centers, as well as NASA and NATO.

From JSDE to JNC

The AGMC served as permanent secretary for the group, with representation from the Air Force, Army, Navy, airlines, Defense Supply Agency and Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, which represented industry interests. The group met three months before each conference to review proposed papers and prepare the conference program.

In the late 1980s, JSDE became a self-sufficient, tax-exempt organization managed by an executive committee with representatives from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Draper. Conferences were held every two years, with responsibility for organizing and chairing them rotating among the three military services.

The Department of Homeland Security was first represented in 2009, while representatives from Federally Funded Research and Development Centers have also participated over the years.

The first jointly sponsored JSDE/Institute of Navigation JNC was held in 2009. Following that event, the JSDE Board agreed to become the Institute of Navigation’s Military Division, and the JSDE organization was dissolved. The ION Military Division has hosted the Joint Navigation Conferences since then.

JNC 2027 continues the work originating with the AGMC and subsequently developed through the JSDE, centered on the exchange of technical information relating to guidance and navigation systems.

Where is Joint Navigation Conference 2027?

JNC 2027 will be held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky, in the Greater Cincinnati area.
