NORTrace is a powerful software tool that allows users to estimate sonar performance under dynamic acoustical, oceanographic and meteorological conditions. Suitable for use with any sonar with a frequency between 1 kHz and 1 MHz, it is ideal for optimization and evaluation of and training on a variety of equipment including surveillance systems, anti-submarine warfare sonars, mine warfare sonars, avoidance sonars, diver detection sonars and forward-looking sonars.
The software enables operators to continuously monitor the output of acoustic modeling in constantly-changing environments such as where underwater conditions vary on an hourly or seasonal basis. It provides a variety of graphical outputs, and can be easily integrated into tactical information displays.
Adjustable sonar parameters include:
- Frequency
- Bandwidth
- Pulse Type
- Pulse Length
- Source Level
- Directivity Index
- Beam Width
- Tilt Angle
- Detection Threshold
- Sonar Noise Figure
- Deployment Depth
Adjustable oceanographic and meteorological parameters include:
- Sound Speed Profile
- Bottom Sedimentation
- Sea Floor Topology
- Rainfall
- Wind Speed
- Ambient Noise
- Shipping Density
- Target Strength
