Air Surveillance Radar
Discover cutting-edge solutions from leading global suppliers
Teledyne FLIR Defense has reached a major manufacturing milestone with the delivery of its 3,000th Ranger surveillance radar system from its production facility in Laval, Quebec.
Designed and built at the facility outside Montreal, the Ranger radar series is deployed in more than 40 countries to secure borders, airports, seaports, and critical infrastructure, as well as support defense operations and counter-unmanned aircraft systems. Operating from fixed or mobile installations, the radar systems deliver fast scan rates capable of simultaneously tracking hundreds of targets moving in any direction at virtually any speed.
“Celebrating the 3,000th Ranger radar manufactured and deployed from Laval is a landmark moment reflecting both the talent and tenacity of our team,” said Pierre Poitevin, Vice President of Radar Systems. “This milestone is a testament to our skilled engineers and Canada’s significant contributions to the global defense industry.”
Since radar manufacturing began at the site in 2005, the Laval team has continuously introduced new capabilities, earning recognition from Engineers Canada with a National Engineering Product Award for the Ranger R20SS. Recent enhancements to the product line include software upgrades bringing 360-degree Fast Scan capabilities with higher refresh rates, earlier threat warnings, improved tracking accuracy, greater elevation coverage, and AI-enabled processing for target classification.
“As threats become more sophisticated and difficult to detect, we’re proud to provide reliable radar solutions that push the boundaries of what our customers can achieve while surveilling the land, sea and air,” Poitevin added.
The Ranger radar series is manufactured by Teledyne FLIR Defense, a division of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, and is available in multiple configurations, form factors, detection ranges, and scan rates to accommodate a variety of mission sets.
