BAE Systems has selected Plasan to provide armor for the second batch of Type 26 Global Combat Ships for the UK Royal Navy.

Plasan is currently delivering composite armor for the first three frigates as part of the Batch 1 contract.

The new Batch 2 contract includes composite armor for five Type 26 frigates, demonstrating the successful performance of the composite armor delivery to date in providing value for money to the Royal Navy.

Plasan believes the unique installation approach that was demonstrated as part of Batch 1 deliveries will allow simple and cost effective integration for the entire Type 26 fleet of eight.

The new Type 26 Global Combat Ship designed and built by BAE Systems is the new class selected to replace the eight Duke-class anti-submarine frigates currently in service with the Royal Navy.

The Type 26 will provide increased capability and flexibility through an innovative design that includes a multi role mission bay, large flight deck and hangar that will be able to exploit a range of manned and unmanned systems. There will also be great scope for future development.

Plasan believes its armor technology, flexibility and innovation is well suited to the Type 26 approach and has helped to secure this important program. The quality and production processes within Plasan underpin the confidence that has been shown in selecting Plasan’s solution for the follow on orders.
