Smiths Detection, a developer of threat detection and security screening technology, will manufacture and deliver up to 1,200 Lightweight Chemical Detectors (LCD) to the Swiss Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport to replace the existing fleet of personal chemical detectors.

LCD is a rugged, reliable, person-worn Toxic Industrial Chemical (TIC) and Chemical-Warfare Agent (CWA) identifier and detector. According to Smiths Detection, it is the most widely deployed personal chemical detector used by CBRNe and HAZMAT operators across the globe. The detector is designed to provide a lifesaving warning to personnel who deploy into high threat environments and warning of toxic threats to the civilian population.

Michael Lea, Defense Market Director, said, “We’re delighted to have been once again selected by the Swiss Federal Department of Defense to supply them with personal chemical detectors. We have a longstanding relationship with the armasuisse and look forward to continuing to help them meet their safety goals and our shared mission of making the world a safer place.”
