A modified variant of the Malloy Aeronautics T-150 Uncrewed Air System (UAS), equipped with an APKWS modification kit developed and integrated by BAE Systems’ FalconWorks division, successfully intercepted multiple one-way attack drones in succession during a recent US military experiment.
Conducted in late September at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, the trials took place as part of the US Office of the Under Secretary for Research & Engineering Mission Capabilities Joint Readiness Experimentation exercise. During the demonstration, the modified aircraft, designated the TRV-150, was equipped with a production-ready three-pod launcher firing BAE Systems FalconWorks’ laser-guided APKWS® rockets. This setup enabled the platform to engage multiple aerial targets sequentially without the need to land or reload.
The trial demonstrated how low-cost precision weapons can be integrated onto uncrewed platforms to counter growing drone threats on the battlefield. The achievement builds upon tests conducted in July 2025, which marked the first single-shot firing of a precision munition from an adapted T-150 platform.
Thomas Lancashire, Head of UAS Business Development at BAE Systems’ FalconWorks®, stated, “Our customers are facing drone threats right now, so we’ve worked at pace with our partners to move from concept to a proven system, which can engage multiple targets in a single mission. Military technology is evolving faster than ever and it’s vital that effective capabilities reach those who protect us as quickly as possible. In today’s environment, the speed at which we deliver equipment can be just as important as the system itself.”
The system represents a collaborative effort across industry partners. The platform is based on the T-150 from BAE Systems subsidiary Malloy Aeronautics, while US partner SURVICE Engineering adapted the aircraft to the TRV-150 configuration to meet US Army requirements. BAE Systems’ FalconWorks division developed and integrated the APKWS modification kit.
BAE Systems is also working with other industry partners internationally on configurable tactical counter-drone systems, with a focus on affordability and operational flexibility.
Gregory Thompson, President of SURVICE, said, “Supporting the warfighter has been at the core of SURVICE’s mission since its founding over 45 years ago. Bringing the TRV-150 to the US warfighter and now adding APKWS as a proven, precise, and cost-effective capability to our TRV-150 UAS platform is exactly the type of innovation SURVICE was designed to deliver.”
Beyond its counter-drone role, the underlying T-150 platform has already been deployed with UK armed forces for tactical logistics. This includes operations with the Royal Navy’s Carrier Strike Group, where it transported supplies between ships throughout an eight-month Indo-Pacific deployment in 2025.
Following the latest trials, the team will look to build on the results by exploring the T-150’s use in counter-drone operations in the maritime environment, with the ultimate aim of helping protect customers from similar threats at sea.
