Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) has announced that its flagship products, VBS4 and VBS Blue IG, have passed Defence Virtual Simulation (DVS2)’s Full Operating Capability (FOC) acceptance testing.

This means that the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD)’s Training and Simulation Systems Program (TSSP) will now be rolling out VBS4 and VBS Blue IG to support the UK’s training, experimentation and mission rehearsal needs.

DVS2 is the UK MoD’s common virtual simulation tool, providing interoperable, accessible, and deployable virtual simulation capability across the MoD and Industry. The DVS2 capability enables simulated activity across all levels of training, as well as operations planning and rehearsal, decision support, and research and development.

In April 2022, the UK MoD selected BISim’s VBS4 and VBS Blue IG products as the UK MoD’s DVS2 solution. According to BISim, the VBS4 will enable DVS2 users to upgrade their training capabilities, taking advantage of the ease-of-use, performance and feature enhancements provided by the new software. New features will include whole earth terrain, cloud-enabled terrain streaming, easy to use editors for both terrain and scenario editing, new radar functionality, enhanced, UK-specific CBRN capabilities and a large number of new vehicles, aircraft, and equipment.

VBS4 is a whole-earth virtual and constructive desktop trainer and simulation host that allows users to create and run a vast range of military training scenarios anywhere. It provides a virtual training environment for land, air and sea training, mission rehearsal applications, and experimentation at any location on Earth.

VBS Blue IG is a whole-earth image generator software which uses the CIGI standard to rapidly integrate with existing third-party host simulators and BISim’s VBS4. VBS Blue IG provides day/dusk/night scenes across multiple synchronized displays to support the full spectrum of land, sea, air, and space use cases. Supporting out-the-window, infrared, and night vision scenes, VBS Blue IG leverages video-game technologies to bring AAA game graphics to military simulation and training.
