Accelerate Defense Modernization through Strategic Sourcing
Discover cutting-edge solutions from leading global suppliers
Embraer and Valkyrie Aero have partnered to integrate advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into the A-29 Super Tucano to enhance its effectiveness in Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS) missions.
The collaboration centers on Valkyrie’s proprietary Gunslinger AI suite, which is designed to enable real-time tactical decision-making on the battlefield. This technology supports the find, fix, and finish phases of countering unmanned threats, offering a solution built to address a rapidly changing UAS landscape. The system builds upon the A-29’s existing sensor array to improve its ability to engage disruptive and persistent drone threats.
Modern militaries have traditionally relied on high-end fighter jets to intercept drones, resulting in high mission costs. The A-29 platform offers a more economical alternative, utilizing its tandem cockpit, agility, and extended loiter time. The aircraft can safely match the speed of one-way attack drones, creating a stable platform for the precision engagement of effectors including guns and guided rockets.
“We are proud to partner with Valkyrie to further enhance the A-29 C-UAS mission capabilities. With over 60,000 combat flight hours, the A-29 Super Tucano is the gold standard for light attack globally, and the ideal platform for manned C-UAS operations,” said Marcio Monteiro, Market Intelligence Vice-President of Embraer Defense & Security.
Embraer Defense & Security currently provides a range of integrated solutions across more than 60 countries, including the KC-390 Millennium airlifter and various intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems. The A-29 Super Tucano is assembled in Jacksonville, Florida, for both American and foreign military sales customers.
“Valkyrie is excited to partner with Embraer to deliver Gunslinger on the A-29 platform for customers worldwide. Gunslinger is born from the immediate needs of the frontline warfighter, whom Valkyrie trains and engages with every day,” said Chris Turner, Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy of Valkyrie Aero.
