Greensea IQ has introduced Bayonet Sweep, an expeditionary autonomous underwater robot designed to detect and classify threats on ship hulls and harbor infrastructure without placing divers in the water.
Unlike routine hull inspections focused primarily on maintenance, Bayonet Sweep is purpose-built for force protection. The system provides navies, security teams, and port and harbor authorities with a repeatable autonomous workflow for inspecting hulls, detecting anomalies, classifying potential threats, and georeferencing their locations.
Following an inspection, the system produces an aggregated record of the hull, while its configurable design enables it to support mission-specific inspection requirements.
Ben Kinnaman, Greensea IQ’s Chief Executive Officer, commented, “We rely on ports and harbors worldwide, for our infrastructure. With all of those vessels coming in and out, we have no way of knowing what is on the underside of those ships. We’ve taken the navigation and autonomy technology that we’ve built EverClean upon, the technology that allows an autonomous vehicle to crawl along the hull, and we’ve developed a security robot that can be deployed to sweep from stem to stern reliably and with high confidence to provide an operator 100% intelligence on the hull of that ship. Through the use of this autonomy and navigation, we can plug a vital hole in our port and harbor security infrastructure.”
Bayonet Sweep forms part of the wider Bayonet mission suite, Greensea IQ’s line of expeditionary autonomous systems and operating software for Mine Countermeasures (MCM) and strategic marine operations. The new platform was developed from technology used in the company’s EverClean hull maintenance system and adapted for security applications.
A single Bayonet Sweep vehicle can conduct an assessment independently, while several vehicles can also be deployed simultaneously to support a rapid, coordinated sweep. Integration with Greensea IQ’s software systems enables additional information to be incorporated into a complete post-mission record.
The robot is powered by Greensea Core, the same open-architecture software used across the Bayonet robotics portfolio. It also operates within the same user interface family as the wider Bayonet mission suite, supporting a smoother transition for operator training.
Bayonet Sweep is commercially available as a self-hosted solution. Greensea IQ provides operator training and, where required, continued assistance through over-the-horizon support.
