Honeywell Aerospace Technologies and LIG Nex1 have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore potential collaboration in the development and commercialization of solutions for the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) sector.
The MoU outlines potential areas of cooperation, including Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCAs), and specialized applications in space, cybersecurity, and electromagnetic defense. The non-exclusive framework combines Honeywell’s expertise in resilient navigation, advanced communications, and drone management systems with LIG Nex1’s established capabilities in precision electronic systems across air, surface, and marine platforms.
The companies intend to assess market requirements and identify potential pathways to transition existing commercial unmanned capabilities into defense-specific applications. This process will involve evaluating customer needs and ensuring all developments meet applicable regulatory approvals.
Sathesh Ramiah, Vice President, Defense & Space, Asia Pacific, Honeywell Aerospace, commented, “Honeywell’s work with LIG Nex1 represents a disciplined approach to advancing the future of aviation and defense technologies. By exploring opportunities with LIG Nex1, we are evaluating how proven commercial unmanned capabilities can be responsibly adapted to support next-generation defense and autonomous systems.”
Jongsung Park, President, Corporate Strategy & Investment, LIG Nex1, added, “This framework provides an opportunity to evaluate how our experience in advanced defense systems can be aligned with Honeywell’s unmanned and navigation technologies. By exploring these areas together, we aim to better address evolving requirements for unmanned and autonomous platforms.”
Based in the Republic of Korea, LIG Nex1 is a developer of precision electronics that works closely with major defense and aircraft original equipment manufacturers. The partnership will leverage this established customer base to investigate potential export opportunities, subject to further assessment and regulatory review.
