Handheld Group, part of MilDef, has been awarded a contract for nano drone control computers to be used by dismounted soldiers.

The custom-built drone-control computer is based on a 7-inch ultra-rugged Handheld Android tablet. The customer, a USA-based global defense group, is delivering nano drones for battlefield surveillance.

The initial contract is valued at 6 MSEK ($580,000) with substantial growth potential expected.

According to Handheld, drone technology has emerged as a game-changer in modern warfare, revolutionizing the way military operations are conducted. Drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are said to have significantly transformed the battlefield and enhanced military capabilities.

“This win is the first cross-selling deal since Handheld became part of MilDef and it showcases the synergies between the two companies. We’ve taken Handheld’s custom device development skills together with MilDef’s military expertise to provide a customized solution for our client’s unique requirements,” said Fredrik Jacobsson, Handheld Group CEO. “Handheld’s rugged Android tablets are powerful, compact, and will revolutionize the field operations for dismounted soldiers.”
