ANELLO Photonics has been selected for an SBIR Phase I award focused on Resonator Laser Gyroscope technology by SpaceWERX to address key challenges within the Department of the Air Force (DAF).
The Air Force Research Laboratory and SpaceWERX, the innovation arm of the U.S. Space Force and a division within AFWERX, have partnered to streamline the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) processes. Their efforts focus on accelerating timelines from proposal to award, broadening the applicant pool by expanding opportunities for small businesses, and reducing bureaucratic overhead through ongoing improvements in contract execution.
The DAF launched the Open Topic SBIR/STTR program in 2018 to broaden the scope of innovations it supports. On August 16, 2024, ANELLO Photonics will begin its work under this program, aiming to develop advanced capabilities that enhance the national defense of the United States.
Dr. Mario Paniccia, CEO of ANELLO Photonics, commented “We are thrilled to work with the Space Force and provide them access to our innovative, cutting-edge optical gyroscope technology and technical know-how. By leveraging our vast integrated photonics expertise and AI-based solutions we aim to further support Space Force’s mission around providing capabilities to the joint forces operating in GPS-challenged environments.”
