Night Observation Systems
Night vision devices (NVDs) enable personnel to execute surveillance, target acquisition and designation operations in conditions with limited or no light.
Night Vision Devices
The term ‘night vision device’ usually refers to a complete unit including an image intensifier tube, a protective and often water-resistant housing, and some type of mounting system.
Many NVDs also include a protective sacrificial lens or optical components such as telescopic lenses or mirrors as well as an infrared (IR) illuminator if the unit is an active night-vision device.
NVDs are often used with IR laser sights which project a beam onto a target that is only visible through an NVD.
NVDs usually include night-vision goggles for ground troops and aircrew, and the scope for use with weapons including rocket launchers and sniper and assault rifles.
