Hytera has launched the W60 Wearable MCS Radio at Critical Communications World (CCW) 2026 to help organizations maintain mission-critical communications beyond the coverage limits of traditional radio networks.
Maintaining reliable communications in basements, tunnels, underground facilities, and other challenging environments has long been an obstacle for the public safety, transportation, energy, and industrial sectors, as expanding physical PMR infrastructure often requires significant investment and deployment time.
The lightweight, 156-gram W60 addresses this challenge by connecting to an existing PMR radio and functioning as a wired remote speaker microphone during daily operations, while extending connectivity via broadband MCX networks when personnel move beyond traditional radio coverage.
This hybrid capability helps teams remain connected without forcing organizations to replace existing radio systems or alter established workflows. Furthermore, by supporting MCX Access and priority-based services, the device helps maintain reliable voice communications during periods of heavy network congestion.
Operational visibility and command center coordination are also enhanced by the new device. In addition to standard voice services, the W60 features an integrated 8 MP camera that supports live video streaming and on-site recording, providing dispatchers and supervisors with greater visibility into developing field situations. To support data security and evidence integrity, video, audio, and operational data are protected through AES-256 encryption and stored on removable secure storage.
Built for demanding field environments, the W60 features AI-powered noise cancellation alongside a high-performance speaker to support clear communications in loud environments. It has an IP68 rugged rating for protection against water, dust, and accidental drops, and offers up to 24 hours of battery life to support extended shifts. If additional runtime is required, the wearable can draw supplementary power directly from a connected PMR radio.
Ray Zhang, Product Director at Hytera Europe, stated, “Many organisations face communications challenges in a limited number of difficult locations, where expanding PMR infrastructure is not always practical. The W60 helps extend connectivity into those areas through broadband MCX services while preserving existing PMR investments. Personnel remain connected, visible to command, and supported wherever operations take them.”
By bridging PMR and broadband communications, the device provides a practical, cost-effective path toward converged mission-critical communications while maximizing the value of current infrastructure.
