Volatus Aerospace has expanded its Board of Advisors with the appointment of Lieutenant-General (Ret’d) Christopher J. Coates, a prominent leader in Canadian defense and security.
This strategic move is designed to strengthen the company’s defense capabilities as it scales the production of Canadian-made Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) and enhances training programs for the Canadian Armed Forces and NORAD modernization efforts. Lieutenant-General Coates brings extensive experience from his time as Commander of the Canadian Joint Operations Command, where he synchronized readiness across all military branches, and as Deputy Commander of NORAD, where he directed air defense and capability development for North America.
His career began in tactical aviation as a helicopter pilot before moving into senior leadership roles involving synthetic environments and defense transformation. Currently, he leads the Foreign Policy, National Defence, and National Security Program at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and is a frequent contributor to discussions regarding Arctic sovereignty and the evolving global strategic landscape.
The Advisory Board at Volatus Aerospace serves to provide high-level guidance on government policy, international markets, and emerging procurement requirements. The group operates in a consultative capacity to assist the company in building relationships with military and industry stakeholders.
Glen Lynch, CEO of Volatus Aerospace, commented, “Christopher brings deep operational insight into the defence of North America, a sophisticated understanding of emerging threats, and practical leadership experience across Canada’s most complex military operations. As we advance our domestic manufacturing programs, expand our training capabilities, and support the CAF and allied partners, his counsel will be invaluable. His appointment reflects our commitment to building the strongest advisory and leadership ecosystem possible in support of Canada’s defence and industrial needs.”
Lieutenant-General (Ret’d) Christopher J. Coates, added, “I am honoured to join Volatus Aerospace at this pivotal moment in Canada’s defence evolution. Canada must accelerate the adoption of modern technologies, sovereign manufacturing, and advanced training capabilities to meet growing security challenges. Volatus’ vision and operational maturity position the Company to make a meaningful contribution to the CAF, NORAD modernization, and our allies.”
