Spectra Group has introduced its Troposcatter on the Move (TOTM) system to the Asia Pacific market for the first time at Indo Defence 2025, held at Jakarta International Expo from June 11-14.

As a global leader in secure voice, data and satellite communication solutions, Spectra is presenting TOTM and a full suite of advanced tactical communications capabilities at Booth D167f.
TOTM addresses one of the region’s most critical operational challenges, delivering resilient, high-bandwidth communications across vast island chains and coastal environments without relying on satellite connectivity.
Developed in close partnership with Comtech and BATS Wireless, the system enables secure ship to ship and ship to shore communications while in motion, even in environments where GPS and satellite access may be compromised or denied. TOTM marks a major advancement in mobile data delivery for maritime and littoral operations, offering a reliable Beyond Line of Sight capability that meets the complex demands of modern military communications.
The fully integrated TOTM solution combines Comtech’s COMET troposcatter system with BATS Wireless electronically steered antennas, delivering a single, mobile terminal that provides secure, high-throughput data links on the move. Spectra Group, as the systems integrator, holds full distribution rights and has worked closely with its technology partners throughout 2024 to validate the system’s real-world performance. A series of sea trials were conducted off the coasts of Florida and California, simulating multi-node communications during dynamic littoral operations. These trials confirmed TOTM’s ability to maintain continuous, high-speed connectivity across moving platforms in a variety of ship to ship and ship to shore scenarios, with and without GPS.
Designed to support demanding applications such as strategic communications, ISR, control of unmanned systems and autonomous sensors, TOTM delivers data rates up to 210 Mbps at ranges exceeding 100 kilometers. The system excels in contested environments where traditional satellite-based communications may be vulnerable or unavailable. In addition to maritime use, TOTM can be deployed with land vehicles for rapid “at the pause” connectivity, eliminating the need for manual antenna setup and alignment. This enables ground forces to transmit and receive large volumes of mission-critical data quickly and securely from temporary or forward positions.
Simon Davies, CEO of Spectra Group, said, “TOTM’s launch in Asia Pacific couldn’t be more timely, with increasing demands for rapid, resilient connectivity across archipelagic states, TOTM provides a decisive edge in high-mobility scenarios. TOTM is about ensuring command and control even in the most challenging maritime environments.”
With its impressive mobility, bandwidth and resilience, TOTM enhances the operational effectiveness of troposcatter technology in modern maneuver warfare, offering a decisive communications advantage for Asia Pacific defense forces operating in complex and dynamic environments.
