Ground Control and Ambrey have partnered to deliver RockFLEET Assured, a specialized positioning solution designed to protect maritime vessels against increasing incidents of GPS denial and spoofing.
The collaboration addresses a critical shift in global shipping safety, where disruptions to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are becoming a material risk for fleets. By combining Ground Control’s satellite engineering with Ambrey’s maritime security expertise, the partnership provides shipowners with a reliable method to maintain oversight in high-risk regions such as the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and the Straits of Hormuz.
The core technology, RockFLEET Assured, serves as an assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (A-PNT) tool. It is engineered to remain functional even when standard GPS signals are compromised by jamming or intentional interference. Such disruptions often lead to collisions, groundings, or a total loss of situational awareness, creating significant threats to crew safety.
The system utilizes an Iridium PNT module integrated into a rugged, marine-grade smart antenna. This setup allows for two-way satellite messaging and authenticated positioning data, enabling shore-based teams and onboard crews to detect anomalies and validate the ship’s true location. Ambrey will now incorporate this technology into its broader risk management services, supported by its 24/7 Global Operations Centre in Southampton.
Alastair Macleod, CEO of Ground Control, said, “GNSS disruption is no longer a niche concern, it’s a practical challenge for commercial fleets operating in high-risk regions. By working with Ambrey, we’re bringing a straightforward, reliable solution to market that enables ship and shore teams to validate position, detect anomalies, and maintain trusted oversight when GNSS can’t be relied upon.”
The integration of this “always-on” connectivity ensures that tracking remains continuous regardless of the local electronic environment. This capability is essential for safeguarding seafarers and cargo in areas where traditional navigation tools are frequently targeted.
Ben Westcott, Director of Digital Services at Ambrey, added, “Our customers consistently highlight GPS-denied environments as a major operational and safety concern. We are delighted to be working with Ground Control, a leader in assured positioning, to bring enhanced tracking and navigation capabilities to our clients.”
