CENTUM is progressing with the integration of its Lifeseeker SAR XL S10M system into the Spanish C295 maritime surveillance aircraft fleet as part of an ongoing programme led by Airbus Defence and Space.
The Lifeseeker SAR XL S10M represents an evolved version of the original technology, engineered to optimize integration with mission systems while meeting rigorous military qualification standards. This evolution expands the system’s compatibility across a broader range of airborne platforms. Initial units for the Spanish fleet, known as VIGMA, are scheduled for delivery in the coming months.
The programme’s reach extends beyond Spain, with a formalised order to equip the Royal Canadian Air Force’s CC-295 Kingfisher fleet. This agreement, part of the Fixed-Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) programme, includes eight systems plus one additional unit.
Lifeseeker provides high-precision location of mobile phones in complex environments. By identifying signals from cellular devices, the system improves response times and effectiveness during search and rescue operations in both maritime and land scenarios. Beyond traditional SAR missions, the technology is applicable to emergency response and disaster recovery operations, including earthquakes and floods.
Javier Chamorro, Executive President of CENTUM, said, “The progress of the programme and the delivery of the first units for VIGMA in the coming months mark an important milestone in the operational deployment of Lifeseeker. In addition, the expansion to new international fleets reinforces operator confidence in this type of capability for SAR missions.”
The development was announced during FIDAE, a major aerospace and defense event in Latin America, where CENTUM showcased its capabilities within the Spain Pavilion.
