The Italian Armed Forces (Forze Armate Italiane) comprise the Esercito Italiano (Army), Marina Militare (Navy), Aeronautica Militare (Air Force), and the Carabinieri, a gendarmerie force with both military and civil duties. As of 2023, Italy maintains approximately 165,500 active-duty personnel, supported by a reserve force of about 18,300 individuals. The nation emphasizes a versatile and expeditionary military posture, contributing significantly to NATO and international security operations.
