Accelerate Defense Modernization through Strategic Sourcing
Discover cutting-edge solutions from leading global suppliers
The United States Navy has selected AeroVironment (AV) to provide Contractor-Owned, Contractor-Operated (COCO) Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) services for critical naval operations.
As part of a new initiative to modernize and expand its ISR capabilities, the United States Navy will enable AeroVironment to compete for delivery orders, providing turnkey persistent ISR support alongside other selected industry partners. The offering combines AeroVironment’s autonomous platforms, multi-sensor integration, and operational expertise.
Central to this effort is AV’s JUMP 20-X, a Group 3 Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS). The platform is designed for multi-domain operations, offering more than 13 hours of flight time and a 115-mile operating range. With a payload capacity of 30 pounds and over 70 different potential integrations, the system allows the Navy to configure the aircraft for specific mission requirements across both land and maritime environments.
AV, a global leader in autonomous systems, engineered the JUMP 20-X to eliminate the need for traditional launch and recovery equipment. This design reduces the physical footprint required for operations and simplifies logistics, allowing for more rapid deployment in the field.
Shane Hastings, Vice President of Medium Uncrewed Systems at AV, commented, “We are honored to be selected as a partner to help the U.S. Navy expand its ISR services and enhance mission-critical awareness for warfighters around the globe. We have the people and product to deliver a superior capability across the fleet and are committed to supporting our customers with a flexible, scalable, full lifecycle ISR solution–any mission, any domain.”
The company has previously provided advanced ISR support services to the U.S. Marine Corps 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, the Korean Navy, and the U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command. This latest selection is intended to bolster operational readiness across various global theaters.
Hastings added, “This is a win for AV and a win for the US Navy. Our technology is deployed, proven, and mature. Our team is ready to deliver. We are reshaping our nation’s ISR capabilities.”
